Beliefs

We believe the Bible is the very Word of God, written by human authors inspired by the Holy Spirit.  It is without error, trustworthy, and life changing.  2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21, Psalm 119:105-106.

We believe in one God, Creator of heaven and earth, who exists in three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Genesis1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19-20; Colossians 1:15-17.

We believe God created all people in His image.  We were created by God to join in community with Himself and each other.  However, apart from Jesus Christ, we are lost and under the wrath of a holy God.  Sin separates us from God and we come under judgment.  The Father redeems us as His children through the sacrifice of the Son, Jesus Christ.  Repentance is the act of confession of sin, acceptance of the necessary sacrifice, the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, and the continual growth of becoming more like God through the help of the Holy Spirit.  Genesis 1:26-27; John 3:16, 17; Romans 3:21-26, 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9.

We believe Jesus Christ was born of the Virgin Mary, fully God and fully human, living a perfect sinless life.  He accepted the penalty for our sin upon the cross, died and rose bodily again the third day, and now sits at the right hand of God interceding for us.  Some day, He will return to fulfill the eternal plan of God.  Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; 14:1; I Corinthians 15:3-4; I Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 7:25; Revelation 22:12-14.

We believe the Holy Spirit convicts people of sin and draws people to Christ.  Upon confession of faith, He indwells all believers inviting them to imitate the life of Christ.  He gives spiritual gifts to serve and build the Church in order to reach the lost.  John 14:16-17, 16:7-13; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12:3-14; Romans 8:12-17.

We believe death seals the eternal destiny of people.  Unbelievers are separated from God eternally, while believers are brought into the presence of God.   Matthew 25:31-46; Luke 23:43; 2 Thessalonians 1:6-9.

We believe all who follow Christ are joined together in the universal Church.  God desires believers to dwell together in unity across denominational, cultural, socio-economic, gender, and geographic borders.  The Kingdom of God is expressed in unity with diversity.  Ephesians 1:22-23, 4:15-16; Colossians 1:18, 3:11.

We believe the local church is a gathering of believers who worship, pray, encourage, fellowship, and hold each other accountable for spiritual and character development.  The Church, both local, and universal, is commanded by God to love Him, love others, and commissioned to expand the Kingdom of God.  Baptism and the Lord’s Table are practiced as key symbols of the death and resurrection of Christ.  Acts 2:38, 42-47; Matthew 28:16-20; Romans 6; Hebrews 10:24-25, 2 Timothy 2:2; I Corinthians 11:23-26; Acts 1:8.
